Boehlerit’s Research and Development department employs the most advanced analytical methods and cooperates closely with university and research establishments to meet the continuously changing demands (increase of productivity, improved materials, new fields of application) that carbide as a cutting and wear protection material has to fulfil. The result of its dedicated development work are new, high-quality, application-oriented products made by Boehlerit.
Powder production
Powder production in the solid carbide industrie
One of the most advanced powder production facilities in the carbide industry ensures the highest quality standards. The facility with its more than 2000 m2 production area guarantees the highest degree of metallurgical flexibility. Boehlerit powder production stands out with its great variety of grades and the ability to adjust to any customer demands. A high-rack warehouse with more than 20,000 pallet storage places ensures 100 % availability at any time.
PTW - Pressed parts
Production line PTW – state-of-the-art-pressing technology
In the PTW production line, state-of-the-art pressing technology is used to press carbide parts which are often so complex that our competitors have to resort to the complex moulding technology. The prerequisites needed are created in the company’s own pressing tool department. The indexable insert grinding shop is equipped with the most advanced 5-axis grinders and ensures that even the most complex customised indexable inserts can be precisely produced in an economic way.
FTW - Preformed parts
Productionlinie FTW – fast and flexible in the carbide industrie
One of the largest forming departments of the carbide industry produced 20,000 different types of carbide parts per year. Starting at batch sizes of 1, complex parts are quickly and flexibly produced according to our customers’ specifications. With the most advanced CNC-aided rapid prototyping, Boehlerit helps its customers to save development time and costs.
Efficient tool systems for precise manufacturing
Sintering
Sintering – highest metallurgical flexibility
With process-optimised sintering processes for a range of 120 different carbide grades, Boehlerit ensures the highest degree of metallurgical flexibility for its customers. For quality reasons, only HIP sintering furnaces (HIP: Hot Isostatic Pressing) are used for sintering. These furnaces are designed for pressure up to 100 bar. Sintered inserts of up to 2,700 mm length and a weight of up to 1,000 kg can be processed.

Grinding on high speed
Boehlerit employs modern machinery, ranging from highly automated surface grinding machines to 5-axis grinding centres. We also use the most advanced high-speed grinding machines. Dealing with µ dimensions is part of the everyday routine at Boehlerit.
Coating
Coating technologies for all applications
All modern coating technologies (PVD, HR-CVD and MT-CVD) for hard substance coating of indexable inserts are available at Boehlerit’s coating centre. Boehlerit offers the right hard coating for all applications, from the first Nano-CVD bonding layer in the world to the hardest diamond coating.
